Justin is a seasoned communications professional with over 10 years experience in persuasive writing, digital marketing, media relations, and issue research.
He is currently the director of communications for The Future of Free Speech, an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit think tank located at Vanderbilt University. In this role, he leads all aspects of the organization’s communications strategy, including media outreach, digital content, and brand development. He has helped elevate the organization’s public profile through high-impact report launches, international media placements, and global event promotion.
Justin also plays a key role in shaping public messaging on complex issues such as online content moderation, disinformation regulation, and the global “free speech recession.” He works closely with FoFS leadership, researchers, legal experts, and partner organizations to ensure that the organization’s work reaches diverse audiences—including journalists, policymakers, educators, and civil society leaders.
Previously, he served as director of research at CounterPoint Strategies, where he led investigative teams that provided insights and situational analyses for clients facing hostile media or issue landscapes. He also directly managed communication and counter-adversarial campaigns for companies in the energy, natural resources, food, aerospace, and financial services sectors.
Earlier in his career, Justin was the marketing manager for academic programs at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, a leading university-based research center focused on economics and public policy.
He holds a B.S. in political science from Kennesaw State University and an M.A. in mass communication from the University of Florida.
In addition to his professional work, Justin blogs about housing and free speech issues, has published op-eds on local and national policy debates, and has guest lectured in college courses on political science and mass communications law.
In his free time, he enjoys playing disc golf and board games, traveling, listening to podcasts, and challenging friends to music and movie trivia.
